Can I use a debit card when hiring a vehicle?
You will not be required to use a credit card when you originally reserve your vehicle or for the final payment, but most car rental companies will ask that you have a credit card in the name of the driver when you pickup the vehicle. This is treated as a form of security – some car rental companies may allow you to use a debit card in place of a credit card if you are willing to have a deposit placed on the debit card, however this is not a widely practiced option.
If you will need to use a debit card call the rental company in advance to find out what their policy is. Keep in mind that our comparison and reservation tool does not have cancellation fees so you can cancel a car you have already booked without additional costs.
