Driving Tips
- The motorway speed limit is 130 km/h (81 mph); campervans over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 100 km/h (62 mph).
- Croatia uses a ticket toll system—take a ticket when you enter the motorway, then pay with cash or card at the exit booth.
- Headlights must stay on 24 hours a day from the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday in March.
- Strong Bora wind can close parts of the A1 and D8 near the coast—check road alerts before driving over high bridges.
- Keep at least one reflective vest per person inside the vehicle, plus a warning triangle and spare bulb kit—police may check these items.
- Park only in marked spaces. Overnight parking outside official campsites is illegal and fines can reach €1,300.

- Carry cash and coins for small ferries, island camps and rural toll exits.
- Peak summer means daily ferry queues—arrive 2 hours early with a vehicle wider than 2.2 metres.
- Mosquitoes are common near wetlands—bring repellent and window screens.

- Tap water is safe nationwide—refill whenever possible because inland rest areas can run dry in August.
