How many EV charging stations are there in Victoria?

Victoria had 311 fast and ultra-fast public charging locations (24 kW DC and above) as of mid-2025, according to the Electric Vehicle Council1. Separately, Melbourne and its surrounding suburbs (within about 22 km of the CBD) have around 311 public EV charging locations of all speeds, counted from Google Maps data (August 2026)2. Where can I charge my EV in Victoria?

Public EV chargers throughout Victoria are located in many shopping malls, supermarkets, hotels, car parks and petrol stations.

Three examples of chargers at those kinds of sites:

  • Chadstone Shopping Centre (Car Park E) — Shop EX004/1341 Dandenong Road, Malvern East VIC 31454. Three Exploren 200 kW CCS2 stations with eight plugs, open 24/7, on level P4 of Car Park E, outside Chemist Warehouse5.
  • Ampol Foodary Altona North (AmpCharge) — 1 Horsburgh Drive, Altona North VIC 30256. Two charging bays (150 kW CCS2 and 125 kW CHAdeMO) at a petrol station open 24 hours.
  • ibis Melbourne Hotel & Apartments — 15-21 Therry Street, Melbourne VIC 30007. Four 7 kW Tesla Destination chargers (Type 2); non-Tesla EVs activate and pay through the Tesla app.

Growth of EV Chargers in Victoria

Victoria aims to reach net-zero emissions by 20458. Part of the support for this plan includes subsidies for EVs and an increase in infrastructure to support the transition. As a result of this and other initiatives, the number of publicly available charging stations is increasing each year. Nationally, Australia's public charging network grew from around 8,910 charging points in 2024 to roughly 11,100 in 20253, while EV sales rose from about 98,000 in 20231 to about 157,000 in 20259.
