How many charging stations are there in NSW?

NSW has 1,958 existing and planned public EV charging locations on Transport for NSW’s official registry (April 2026)1. That includes 567 existing and planned locations within about 11 km of central Sydney1, and many sites offer fast or ultra-fast charging. See the live map below for current locations.

Where can I charge my EV in NSW?

You can generally find public EV chargers in many shopping malls, supermarkets, hotels, car parks and petrol stations throughout New South Wales.

Three of the largest public charging sites on Transport for NSW's registry (April 2026)1:

  • Tesla Supercharger, Macquarie Park – corner of Herring Road and Waterloo Road, Macquarie Park NSW 2113. 20 plugs, 130 kW DC.
  • Ampol Charging Station, Western Motorway (M4) – Western Motorway, NSW 2766. 15 plugs, 240 kW DC.
  • Tesla Supercharger, Bay Street – 1 Bay Street, Sydney NSW 2037. 16 plugs, 130 kW DC.

Growth of EV chargers in NSW

The NSW government plans to have at least four fast or ultra-fast chargers per station every 5 km in metropolitan areas and at 100 km intervals across all major NSW highways2. As a result of this and other initiatives, the number of public EV chargers is increasing each year. The Electric Vehicle Council counted 357 public fast and ultra-fast charging locations in NSW in mid-20253, up from 37 in July 20194, as the chart below shows.

Public fast and ultra-fast EV charging locations in NSW at each Electric Vehicle Council report snapshot, 2019 to 2025. The 2019 report counts all DC sites, the 2020 and 2021 reports DC sites of 50 kW and over; from 2022 the threshold is 24 kW.
